Why foodies blog?

"Gourmets simply want to eat the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and personalities surrounding food." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foodie  (9/6/11)

·         How do people sharing your interest in food use blogs to communicate with different publics?
I frequent food blogs. I just like to read about food. I find that reading recipes from food blogs is much more fun than a basic recipe search.
Food bloggers use very enticing photos and descriptions. A food blogger will also often answer one or more of the following question when it comes to a specific recipe or why they blog in general. What inspired them? Where did they find the recipe? How did they invent the recipe? Sometimes they even give a little history about certain ingredients or dishes. Sometimes they relate the food to their life or give what emotion the food gives them.
This is a blog I recently found. It is very professional. I found that he also has links to purchase recipe books and cooking utensils. They are not his personal books, but I'm sure he makes a profit. What I also like about this blog is that he chooses recipes that I can make. Recipes with ingredients I have heard of and can afford to purchase.  Also, the name, Herbivoracious, is simply great!
I found this blog today. It isn’t entirely about food and cooking. It is to inform about living a vegetarian lifestyle. It does have a variety of recipes by food type or ingredient, though. Besides food, it gives advice on living vegetarian, including lifestyle and health choices, as well as dieting and relationship advice.
At first, I did not see any place where the sight is trying to sell anything. However, there are a lot of banner ads and the sight does prompt the reader to sign up for 3 free newsletters. I had trouble finding the fine print without subscribing, but I assumed you eventually start to pay for newsletter. Aren’t newsletters essentially advertisements sent straight to your inbox, anyways? But alas, what they disguise as image links to more recipes are indeed links to sample recipes and a prompt to purchase a recipe ebook.
So it seems food bloggers often blog to find and share food info with other bloggers, to encourage certain food or life habits, and to make money!
·         How can you use blogs in your career, your hobby or just life in general?
Blogs can be used to promote yourself or your business, or even your hobby. They can be used to connect with others in the same field of interest. As well, they can be used to document and journal or moves and thoughts in any area.
